Home-based Services provide via app, UrbanClap announced on January 30 that it has a new global brand name now called Urban Company or UC. Post the name change, Urban Company will now be the umbrella company with sub-brands for each service vertical. The company said it wanted a brand name with universal appeal. Urban Company will host six dedicated sub-brands.
The Gurugram-based company said it is also rebranding its various verticals and making them sub-brands of Urban Company. For example, the home beauty vertical will now be split under the women-focused brand Urban Beauty while the men’s grooming brand will be called Urban Grooming. Urban Spa will be for at-home massages, while home improvements and repairs will come under Urban Cleaning, Urban Repairs, and Urban Painting sub-brands. Finally, Urban Company will also offer fitness and yoga at home and pest control and extermination services.
“From the neighbourhoods of Darling Harbour in Sydney to the condominiums of Gurgaon, Urban Company is a simple name with universal appeal,” Urban Company’s statement said.
In 2019, the company had raised $75 million during a Series E round led by Tiger Global. Spread across 14 cities and expanding global including countries like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sydney, Singapore, and Australia, the company has raised $185 million so far.
Started in November 2014, Co-Founder Abhiraj Bhal, while addressing the audience, emphasised on the need for a mother brand name to subsume all the services for a long-term global expansion plan. Requiring of a universal brand name, Bhal said that the need for a name change was due to its global expansion plans which shall make it globally acceptable.
Highlighting the startup's journey, he said that during its commencement the company saw a target audience needing beauty services, which is the company's leading service till now. The company said it has a rigorous acceptance and on-boarding process with 25 training programmes. It also provides NSDC certification with free insurance cover.
