Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs Manohar Lal, unveiled the National Feeder Monitoring System (NFMS) Control Centre at REC’s headquarters in Gurugram on Friday, marking the company’s 55th Foundation Day.
The NFMS, a flagship initiative by the Ministry of Power, offers detailed, real-time data on power supply, outages, and the overall health of approximately 2.5 lakh (250,000) 11 KV outgoing feeders nationwide. This system aims to enhance transparency, efficiency, and accountability among distribution utilities (DISCOMS), ultimately improving the quality and reliability of power supply for end consumers. The project involves integrating master and transactional data with 87 Discoms.
A dedicated control centre has been established at the REC Corporate Office in Gurugram for day-to-day monitoring and dissemination of findings to Discoms. This ensures the accuracy and efficiency of the data displayed on the NFMS portal, aiding DISCOMS in maintaining key performance indicators set by the Ministry.
Speaking at the event, Union Minister Manohar Lal congratulated REC on its 55th Foundation Day, stating, "As we inaugurate the National Feeder Monitoring System Control Centre today, we take a significant step towards harnessing the power of technology for energising our nation. This system stands as a testament to our commitment to improving power distribution and management across the country. I believe that this initiative will not only enhance the efficiency of our power grids but also ensure a more reliable and continuous power supply for our citizens. Together, let’s illuminate every home and empower every citizen with the light of progress and development."
The control centre will monitor and analyse real-time data from multiple sources, maintaining data integrity on the NFMS portal. It will utilise advanced technologies and software to collect, process, and display relevant operational information, collaborating closely with key stakeholders. RECPDCL, a subsidiary of REC, developed the NFMS to monitor the quality and reliability of power at a national level, aiming for 24x7 continuous power supply.
In addition to the inauguration, Union Minister Manohar Lal participated in the #एक_पेड़_मां_के_नाम (#onePlant4Mother) campaign by planting trees at the REC office in Gurugram, further emphasising his commitment to environmental sustainability.
The event was graced by Pad Yesso Naik, Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, along with Vivek Kumar Dewangan, CMD of REC, and key officials from the Ministry of Power, REC, and RECPDCL.
