Hollywood films dominated Indian box-office this weekend, with the release of Transformers 5 and Baby Driver alongside other Bollywood movies. These two Hollywood films saw an escalated business at the box-office, largely because of the dismal performance by Salman Khan’s Tubelight.
The film opened to decent box-office collection over the first weekend, including the paid-previews on Thursday (29 July). Transformers collected Rs 1.75 crore in the paid previews. The movie took a considerate jump on Friday (30 June), collecting Rs 3.50 crore. Saturday (1 July) added Rs 4.25 crore, whereas the film collected Rs 4.50 crore on Sunday (2 July), taking the total collections to Rs 14 crore. The film has been granted an ‘A’ certification by the Censor Board of India.
The poor reviews and negative word of mouth, proved as a barrier to the much generated hype for the movie in India. The franchise enjoys good fan base in India, but the poor reviews on iMDB and Rotten Tomatoes, spoiled the party for the big franchise, which was definitely expecting better numbers, than what came in for the movie.
Transformers: The Last Knight was supposed to face stiff competition from Tubelight, but the latter proved to be a weak contender for the Hollywood flick. Tubelight has been completely denied by the audience and is witnessing very minimal audience turnout.
The fifth instalment of the popular sci-fi franchise has been directed by Michael Bay. Mark Wahlberg and Stanley Tucci are reprising their roles from the 4th instalment of the franchise- The Age of Extinction. The film also stars Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson and John Turturro. The Last Knight is the final chapter of the franchise. The film has been produced and distributed by Paramount pictures.
