The Ministry of Tourism has released encouraging statistics for the tourism sector for May 2024, revealing significant growth in both Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) and Foreign Exchange Earnings (FEEs). According to the report, FTAs in May 2024 reached 6.00 lakh, slightly up from 5.98 lakh in May 2023, marking a growth of 0.3 per cent.
The period from January to May 2024 saw a more substantial increase, with FTAs totaling 40.72 lakh compared to 37.32 lakh during the same period in 2023. This represents a robust growth of 9.1 per cent, highlighting the increasing attractiveness of India as a travel destination.
Foreign Exchange Earnings also showed a significant upward trend. In May 2024, FEEs were reported at Rs. 17,762 crores, compared to Rs. 17,206 crores in May 2023, a growth of 3.23 per cent. These positive trends suggest a thriving tourism sector, contributing to the overall economic growth and development of the country. The consistent increase in both FTAs and FEEs underscores the sector's robust expansion and its critical role in India's economy.
Union Minister for Tourism and Culture, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, shared this information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Monday, emphasising the sector's growing importance and its positive impact on the national economy.
