Tourism Ministry To Invest Rs 191 Cr In Science City In Haryana
Manohar Lal Khattar, Chief Minister of Haryana, along with an official delegation met Dr Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State (Independent charge) for Culture and Tourism on Friday (02 June) to discuss the proposed 'Science City' to be developed in Haryana by the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) under Ministry of Culture.
The Haryana CM suggested two sites for the project- either in Sonepat or in Gurugram. Both places have enough land for the development of proposed Science City in the State.
Dr. Mahesh Sharma assured the Chief Minister, Haryana of the in-principle approval for the proposed Science City in Haryana and said that the NCSM team will soon visit the suggested places to assess the feasibility of the project. He set a deadline of 31st October, 2018 for the completion of all projects relating to Ministry of Culture and Tourism. He also stressed on the need for holistic development of Kurukshetra. He called upon all concerned to focus on development of tourism sites as recently India has progressed a lot globally in the field of tourism.
The proposed Science City in Haryana is expected to be bigger and more fabulous than the Science City in Kolkata. The total cost of the project is approx Rs 191 crore.
Its purpose is to popularize science among masses, especially among students and youths. Its aims are - (1) Education; (2) Extension; and (3) Research. Berkley University Model will be adopted in its development. It will consist of Thematic Galleries, Fun Science Gallery and High Voltage sport Theatre etc. The Science City will enhance the human capacity and will be seen as Human Resource Development.
