“In order to have trust and security, you need to have zero trust.” When the executive chairman and CEO of Microsoft Satya Nadella says these words while sharing his views on cyber security, he makes people drop their jaws in surprise. Nadella was in conversation with the chairperson of World Economic Forum Klaus Schwab at the Annual Meeting of the WEF in Davos on Wednesday.
“Digital technology has become much more pervasive in our lives. Cyber security issues are on rise. We have developed end to end infrastructure in Microsoft with zero trust. It’s an intelligence game and we are taking it and using it actively,” Nadella said when asked how he sees the increasing number of cyber security issues.
Continuing on how these issues can be dealt with, the Microsoft CEO said, “Use cloud. One of the ways to deal with this is not to fight alone. The local governments also need to modernise their infrastructure to deal with such issues,” Nadella commented.
The Indian-American businessman also shared his views on Carbon accounting. “We are doing a lot about it to make sure that our house is in order,” Nadella said, talking about Microsoft’s initiatives for the same. “We are working on the XBox to reduce its energy footprints. We need to understand where we can make a real difference around carbon accounting. In Europe, banks will now look at the carbon footprints of companies before giving credits. We want to take 250 years of chemistry and compress it to 25 years,” Nadella said.
Nadella also had his views clear on skilling and productivity. “There is a real issue around skills, reskilling and talent. I am hopeful some of these new technologies will be helpful in this.”
