There Is A Need To Adopt Innovative Strategies In Product Design For Recyclability

After the success of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’, In line with India's declaration in the Paris Accord, the next stride in this direction aims to overstep waste & pollution management, transforming these menaces into productive avenues of energy and growth. 

Speaking at BW Recycling for Greener Tomorrow Conclave & Awards 2022, Amar Singh, Secretary-General, MRAI said “MRAI has been working with the Govt. for the last ten years, Govt has been very receptive towards policies, whether it is plastic, paper, ferrous non-ferrous waste. The Govt. has been trying to promote circularity and recycling” Material Recycling Association of India (MRAI) is the apex National Association that represents India’s Recycling Industry that conducts recycling processes for products like Metals (Ferrous & Non-Ferrous), Plastic, Paper, Rubber, Glass, Tyre, E-Waste, Building & Construction Waste, etc.

Explaining the benefits of recycling Singh said “Material recycling protects the environment, conserves our natural resources while reducing the energy costs associated with it. Recycling also helps in building a strong economy by creating jobs for economically weaker section of the society.”

Taking note of the Vehicle Scrappage Policy of the Govt. Singh noted “Govt has announced various policies in line with Atmanirbhar Bharat focus like Vehicle Scrappage Policy, Resource Efficiency improvement in Metal, EV policies like FAME II, EPR in plastic waste, E-waste, and tyre waste. These policies have paved the way for domestic availability of scrap to undertake their recycling operations”

In closing Amar Singh, Secretary-General, MRAI was of the opinion “There is a need to adopt innovative strategies in product design for reusability, recyclability and a recovery of the resource value present in the waste materials”
