Technology has impacted almost every aspect of life today, and education is no exception. Over the years, teachers and students have witnessed a major change in their lives with the introduction of modern technology and support mechanism.
The ratio and relationship of teachers now largely depending upon the usage of technology in teaching practices particularly in higher education, eminent panelists said at the third BW Businessworld Education Summit in New Delhi on Thursday (June 30).
In the concluding panel discussion based on the “higher education”, experts as well as policymakers in education system emphasised on the needs of introducing centre of value education where things apart from curricula should be taught to students like spirituality.
“Rise and fall of any country largely depends upon the human resources and these can be leveraged in best possible manner to benefit the environment. Higher education is very critical to develop thinking, synthesizing and asking questions while using it in unfamiliar situation,” said M Jagadesh Kumar, vice-chancellor of India’s most reputed Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
Harivansh Chaturvedi, director of BIMTECH said, “Public universities have become unmanageable and their role has been reduced to taking examinations only. Poor aren’t getting the facilities even now.”
“Leadership is a bigger problem at these universities. We have 3.3 crore students at higher level but, we only spend 3.5 per cent of our GDP on education, which is much lesser of what it would have been,” Chaturvedi added.
“We have contributed 30 per cent to the world with our students working in various MNC’s across the world. We are only doing chalk and talk but, not research and problem-based study,” said N.C Wadhwa, vice-chancellor of Manav Rachna International University.
We are only having affiliating system of education in the sub-continent, Wadhwa added.
P.B Sharma, vice-chancellor of Amity University Gurgaon said, “Higher education should be a valid mean to provide prosperity among the society. Universities should focus more on incubation and innovation. Teachers should act as facilitator rather than preacher.”
He also thanked BWBusinessworld for initiating such talks which would hopefully bring some policy change in education system of our country.
“Every single unemployed student is a failure of our education system,” said Sunil Chaturvedi, director of Pharma network at SPP School.
