Being one of the youngest states in the country, Telangana is going the startup way to build its smart cities, says KT Rama Rao, Minister for Municipal Administration, Telangana.
“We believe in disruption. Our minister has defined a clear-cut mandate to the cabinet colleagues to get the basic right,” said Rao.
The minister elaborated how Telangana has surpassed the days of power holidays and is now the first state in the country to provide 24*7 supply to the people. He added that the focus of the state is to provide a quality supply of power.
“We have focused big on solar. We have been able to surpass Gujarat in terms of the largest solar producer in the country,” mentioned the minister.
Apart from removing the ‘power deficit’ tag from the state, the minister mentions the state’s focus on providing potable drinking water. Rao said that the chief minister has taken upon himself to provide potable drinking water to 10 million homes, claiming no other state to take up the issue at such level.
Speaking of disruption with respect to water pipelines, the minister wants to integrate the idea of making every home ‘wired’ along with providing water supply.
“We want to integrate the water pipelines with communication cables, fibre optic network and high-speed connectivity. This is our idea of last mile connectivity in the most disruptive manner,” added Rao.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 5th edition of BW Businessworld Smart Cities Conclave, HM Revanna, Minister for Transport, Karnataka focussed on strengthening public transport in the smart cities initiative.
“We want to make public transportation safe, secure and a strong mode for commuting. Apart from reducing the fares for women, we will be starting free medical clinics at all the major bus stations. We applaud the government’s electric vehicle drive, especially for public transport,” said the minister.
