Students Fear Losing A Year As Mumbai University Delays Results

Mumbai University (MU) has failed to declare results of over 10 examinations conducted by it in April-May 2016.

The delay in the declaration of results has created fear among the students to have a dropout year as many universities do not provide provisional admissions.

The fear was expressed by most of the students as the admissions to the next level of various courses have already begun in many universities across the world, while MU is yet to declare results.

A student of BMS, Hinduja College, said, "I have got an offer to study in London, however the absence of marksheet and results will cancel my admission."

"Though I have requested my college to give me provisional admission, considering the fact that delay in result is not my fault, but they simply denied. If MU fails to declare the result in a week, I am going to have a drop-out year," he added.

When he asked the officials to explain the reason behind the delay or provide tentative dates, they told him: "It will be declared when possible, you should not irritate us."

Final year results of various courses are considered as one of the most important announcements that must be made before the deadline.

Even after a series of complaints from students, MU's examination department has not taken any immediate action to evaluate the reason behind the delay in the declaration of results.

The officials have even stopped responding to student queries on the issue.

The university blames a newly-introduced examination system that has increased the computerization process to be the major reason behind the delay.

In order to make the examination process error-free and also to cut down malpractices, Controller of Examination (CoE) has launched a system wherein colleges were expected to submit their internal marks for project work on CDs instead by emails.

As per the Maharashtra Universities Act, 1994, results must be declared within 30-45 days from the concluding date of the examinations. But Mumbai University has created a record of creating a major delay in declaring the results of exams conducted almost every year.

While the university conducts examinations for around 536 subjects, the revaluation and final exam results of over 10 subjects are pending.
