Shuttl, India’s largest bus-aggregating platform, has announced the roll-out of ‘Shuttl S.A.F.E.’ (Secure Anxiety Free Experience) - a project which provides multiple safety checks to every commuter through embedded technology features that also ensures responsible behavior by its bus captains.
Customized specifically for intra-city urban women commuters, the tech—based safety features will be offered across its entire fleet of 450+ vehicles in the next six months. The Gurgaon-based start-up has already unveiled a prototype design of the same in Delhi.
Shuttl, owned by Super Highway Labs Pvt Ltd, was founded by Amit Singh and Deepanshu Malviya in April 2015 and has been funded by Sequoia Capital, Times Internet and Lightspeed Ventures.
Speaking on the occasion, Amit Singh, noted, “One of the primary reasons for women not taking up jobs in Delhi, NCR is the absence of a reliable and safe commute solution. With Shuttl SAFE, we are attempting to safeguard against each aspect of commute pertaining to safety and solve it by leveraging technology. SAFE is a project specifically created keeping in mind the safety of the urban working woman that empowers them to be fearless while travelling to work.”
Among the suite of solutions embedded in the mobile app, a prominent one is a face-based check-in that ensures only designated drivers drive the bus and only genuine commuters board it. There is also a feature called ‘Homecheck’, a call-back confirmation to ensure that a female commuter has reached home safely.
Furthermore, the bus ignition is linked with a tech-based Alcohol Detector which ensures zero incidence of drunk driving. SOS and Panic button on the Shuttl App helps the commuter trigger emergency response, when in danger plus a physical panic button is available on each Shuttl SAFE bus.
To top it all, there is a ‘Live CCTV’ recording that has an auto alert feature which alerts the aggregator if anyone inside the bus is in danger.
Highlighting on the technological advancements, Deepanshu Malviya added, “Our traditional understanding of data as text and numbers has gone through a paradigm shift with the advent of Machine Learning & Internet of Technology (IOT). By using image and sensor data we are now taking a big leap forward in deriving intelligence, thereby delivering a very safe experience for our customers.”
