Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday (1 August) announced the formation of All India Professionals Congress which is AICC latest initiative.
All India Professionals Congress wing is aiming to integrate the professional tax payer of the country into the political system of India.
The registration process is simple and can be done online on the AIPC website www.professionalscongress.com. The party has a nominal fellowship fee of Rs1000 for every registration. This would generate a membership number and a place the member in one of the chapters, which is how APIC will be structured across India.
One chapter will have a minimum 25 members and a maximum of 100. The chapters will decide their functioning or will be given a task to monitor. The reports will be then used by Congress MP’s to present in the parliament. Anyone who wants to register will only have to confirm that they are practicing a profession and are professional tax payers with a pan card.
Tharoor who labelled the latest initiative as ‘A Rotary Club in the Congress Party’ believes this will help the educated taxpayers who are the mainstay of the political democracy in the country to be a part of active politics.
“This is a new idea, which will act as a vehicle for many new ideas in the future. Congress party is giving an opportunity to people who want to channelize their energies politically, they have ideas but no ways to implement them they feel the government has no political room for them”, Tharoor said while addressing a press conference at the Congress headquarters in Delhi.
Tharoor who will chair the initiative said the main idea behind the initiative is to integrate the educated tax payer of the country and their aspirations for the future of our country into our political system.
“I have had many people come up to me and say that we voted for BJP in the elections and are ashamed of it now. Through the AIPC the Congress party is seeking to give an opportunity to such individuals to channel their energy, ideas their professional skills to help meet their aspirations”, Tharoor added.
The AIPC will function as a decentralized platform. It will have city or town level chapters initially as the basic building blocks. Each of these chapters will be set up through the web. This is not a new avenue for a full time politician but a new avenue for someone who is not for the most part currently very active in politics but will be fully integrated into the workings on INC.
On being asked if this initiative will alienate the millennia’s who are educated with a pan number but still don’t fall under the tax paying category ,Tharoor said “In that case they can join the youth congress and in sometime when they fall under the tax paying category they are most welcome to join AIPC".
