Last Friday, a mid-budget drama movie Angrezi Mai Kehte Hain was released which couldn’t earn much. If we look at the movie and the way it had performed, one can imagine why the film failed to make its way at the box office. In spite of getting a decent rating, the film could not actually impress the audience. The major reason could be that the film did not succeed to amass any buzz around it that failed to attract the audience. Other reason could be the competition that the movie has faced from a range of films released this Friday and earlier. Even Raazi and 102 Not Out also proved to be the hindrance for the film, thereby making a very low collection. Even Hollywood movies like Deadpool 2 gave a tough competition to the film. Lastly, it could be the fault in the promotion and marketing of the film in the media.
Sanjay Mishra’s Angrezi Mai Kehte Hain takes us to the modest Varanasi life and the ancestral house of Yaswant Batra. It’s been four years that he has retired from his post office job and 24 years to his marriage with Kiran (Ekavali Khanna). They have a college-going daughter Preeti (Shivani Raghuvanshi) who is in a secret relationship with Jugnu (Anshuman Jha), their neighbour’s son.
Yashwant is completely dogmatist and egoistical person who believes in fulfilling his duty as a father, husband, and provider of everything and for this, the women in his life should completely rely on him for everything. He takes his wife for granted and is unkind to her. Even though Yashwant is literally very mean and it is simply impossible to find any positive point in him, yet his daughter and wife always circle around him.
Finally, the day comes when Kiran confronts Yashwant. "You don’t know what love is. You think duty and work is marriage," she says. And with this, she goes away from him. This move of his wife and the empty house makes him finally realise the value of a wife. A gentleman named Feroz who was nursing his ailing wife, Suman, at her bedside, tranquilizes Yashwant a little more. In this brief role, Pankaj Tripathi adds the soul to the unimaginative and gives the film a much-needed boost of adrenaline.
The first weekend Box Office collection of the film has only been Rs 4.57 crore, which is not a worthy amount. The film didn’t have any high star value actors but still had decent actors, maybe for this very reason, it failed to fascinate its viewers. The film faced loss no matter it had a good story. If we look at the film’s budget, it would still be able to cover up with the cost with the low collection. But the movie will still remain the humiliated one.
"You should always make the #woman in your life feel special, irrespective of age, at 20, at 30, at 40, at 50, at 60, at 70. Love is immortal so it shouldn't have an expiry date in relationships" @boxofficeindia for @amkhmovie & @imsanjaimishra #AngreziMeinKehteHain https://t.co/uOcK9wP3Lq
