Samsung's Galaxy AI suite, which was first introduced with the Galaxy S24 series, has gradually become available on additional handsets, including last year's flagship models and the Galaxy S23 FE. According to the latest SamMobile leak, these AI capabilities may soon be extended to two more Samsung models, namely, the Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55.
According to unnamed sources quoted by SamMobile, the company intends to introduce Galaxy AI features to smartphones produced in 2024, with a focus on the Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55 models. This move demonstrates Samsung's intentions on introducing AI capabilities to a wider variety of devices outside its flagship line.
According to the report, Samsung plans to include these capabilities in the upcoming One UI 6.1.1 update, which is scheduled to be published in September or October of this year. However, it is unclear which AI elements will be included and when they will be available.
One of the obstacles in bringing Galaxy AI features to mid-range devices such as the Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55 is hardware capability. Unlike high-end devices that include Neural computation Units (NPUs), the A series lacks the specialised hardware essential for on-device AI computation. As a result, these models will most likely only have access to AI capabilities that can be processed on a server.
Earlier this year, a Samsung administrator on the company's South Korean community site brought up this limitation. The moderator clarified that features such as Instant Slow-Mo, which require robust NPU and GPU capabilities and a minimum processing speed of 16.6 milliseconds for 60fps films, cannot be brought to mid-range devices. The Galaxy S23 FE, which already has Galaxy AI features, was unable to support Instant Slow-Mo due to identical hardware limits.
As Samsung improves its AI capabilities and integrates them into more devices, users may expect better performance and additional features in their smartphones. While the specific AI features of the Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55 are unknown, Samsung's intentional endeavour to expand the availability of its Galaxy AI suite is visible. For the time being, Samsung customers and enthusiasts are looking forward to the One UI 6.1.1 upgrade, which promises to bring these new features to more devices.
