Review Of Moto G5 | Pure Android Nougat Serving With Hardware On Diet

The Moto G series has been a fairly good hit so far. The pure Android experience at less than half the price of Nexus got Motorola a steady stream of customers over the last four years. Riding on the G series now comes G5.

The First Impression
To be honest I was taken aback by the look of Moto G5. It somehow took me back to the first Moto G phone that was released in November 2013. I wasn’t too happy looking at the reduction in screen size, however the Pure Android experience of Android Nougat out of the box did excite me. G5 is powered by Qualcomm MSM8937 Snapdragon 430, something you get in under Rs.10,000 phones. Performance wise it is good.

Motorola seems hell bent on reduction in the new G5. A reduction in screen size from 5.5inches in G4 to 5 inches in G5, and a lower battery from 3000 mAh to 2800 mAh now does leave your disappointed.

G5 comes with 3GB RAM and 16GB internal storage. Primary camera is 13 megapixels and front camera is 5 megapixels. Screen resolution is a decent 1080 x 1920 pixel. G5 display is bright and offers good color output as well. The back panel and battery both are detachable. The fingerprint sensor is present below the display is good. What’s Great
Pure Android Experience
The G5 user is treated to Pure Android Nougat. It’s a definite treat considering the closest experience of Pure Android Nougat costs almost 5 times the prize of Moto G5.

Lenovo Motorola support
Over the last 4 years Lenovo has established itself in India quite well. They certainly have an edge over other Chinese manufacturers as far as support is concerned.

Fingerprint sensor
The fingerprint sensor in G5 is good. This is one of the improvements of G5 over its predecessor G4. You can also add up to 5 fingerprints.

What’s not great
Reduced Battery
Consider this G4 had a 3000 mah battery pack. G5 has 2800 mah. In an age of increasing phone usage why is Motorola decreasing the battery?

Reduced Screen size
I wonder why has Motorola reduced the screen size from 5.5 inches in G4 to 5 inches in G5.

Heating issues
The device seems to have some heating issues.

The Last Word
Motorola G5 seems like a smartphone on a hardware diet. Why are they decreasing the screen size and offering a lower battery than its predecessor? At Rs.11,999 there are many other phones with better hardware available. Having said that the Pure Android experience does act as temptation for those who want its taste at this price.
