It was around 11:30 at night when I finally managed to reach the comfort of my home. It was a long day, as usual, and I was dead tired. While having my dinner, hot chapatti with potato and capsicum curry, I opted to watch the repeat telecast of the News Hour in
Times Now.
Till now the discussions in the News Hour had only been a source of knowing burning topics of the day for me. But yesterday it made me feel sorry for being a part of a country where certain type of people exists. All sorts of emotions of anger and hatred and negative thoughts were simmering under me by the end of the program (which lasted for around an hour as it consists of two debates). But as any ordinary citizen I let my anger subside and went to sleep. When I reached my bed and saw my 3 year old daughter and my wife sleeping, the core topic of this article struck my mind. Both of them were sleeping peacefully unaware of what is happening outside their home.
That is when a thought struck me. Around 1.25 billion people, including some irresponsible politicians and people from film fraternity and other walks of life, would be sleeping peacefully in their cozy bed because there are some brave hearts who are selflessly defending our borders and our cities day in and day out. If these irresponsible people question the integrity and authenticity of the information provided by our brave soldiers then one is forced to get angry and react harshly.
My simple question is "why can't we slap a case of sedition against these people who question the credibility of our army and pose it as their democratic right and freedom of expression?" I know there will be many people who will oppose my thought stating that India is a free country and each and every Indian has the right to express their thoughts openly. I totally accept it but shouldn't there be a limit to this freedom of expression?
Now let us come to the point of slapping sedition case against these so called pseudo liberal people and opportunistic politicians. Let us first look at the legal definition of Sedition. As per law, sedition is overt conduct, such as speech and organization that tends toward insurrection against the established order. Sedition often includes subversion of a constitution and incitement of discontent (or resistance) to lawful authority.
According to this definition stating that the Army and the present central government is spreading false information regarding the recent actions against its neighbour that has been guilty of being a repeat offender for the past 70 years. Instead of supporting our army these people are asking them to prove that the action taken by them are authentic and the information provided by them are credible and can be accepted.
