The country's power consumption exhibited robust growth in September, surging by 10.7 per cent to reach 140.49 billion units.
This upswing was primarily driven by an increased reliance on cooling appliances, a response to unusually humid weather conditions.
Comparatively, during the same period last year, power consumption amounted to 126.91 billion units, demonstrating a notable increase from the 112.43 billion units recorded in September 2021, as indicated by government data.
The peak power supply stood at 199.50 GW in September 2022 and 180.73 GW in September 2021. The power ministry had estimated the country’s electricity demand to touch 229 GW during summer.
The demand did not reach the projected level in April-July due to unseasonal rain.
With June reaching a record high of 224.1 GW before tapering to 209.03 GW in July, there was a notable peak in power supply. August peaked in demand of 238.19 GW.
