Poco plans to introduce the Poco Pad 5G in India. With this move the company is moving itself from smartphones to tablets.
The tablet is intended to meet the needs of modern consumers who seek adaptable gadgets that can accommodate their varied lives. It will have a 10,000 mAh battery, allowing for all-day use without the need for frequent recharging. The tablet will also include a 12-bit display with a 2.5K resolution, resulting in vivid and detailed pictures. The Poco Pad 5G, the only 5G tablet in its sector priced under Rs 24,000, intends to create a new bar for tablets in this price range.
The Indian tablet market is experiencing substantial growth, with a 23 per cent quarter-on-quarter gain in Q2 2024, due to the rapid adoption of 5G technology. As of this point, the market is worth around Rs 15,000 crore, representing a 15 per cent year-on-year increase. Apple currently leads the market with a 33 per cent share, boosted by a 47 per cent increase in unit sales, mostly from its latest iPad models. Samsung is close behind, with 28 per cent of the market, while Lenovo has 16 per cent. Xiaomi is at an 83 per cent year-on-year growth rate and 10 per cent market share.
Poco’s debut into the tablet industry is viewed as a strategic move to supplement its existing range of smartphones and wearables, resulting in a linked ecosystem for its customers. However, as Poco enters the realm of tablets, it has major industry competitors such as Apple, Samsung, Lenovo and Xiaomi to compete with in the Indian tablet market.
