Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kyiv next month for the first time since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, according to sources.
This comes one month after PM Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met on the margins of the G7 Summit in Italy. The two leaders were spotted hugging when they met.
Zelensky congratulated PM Modi on his third-term victory in the Lok Sabha elections and urged him to visit the war-torn country.
In a phone call with President Zelenskyy in March of this year, PM Modi addressed ways to expand India-Ukraine relations, reaffirmed the country's people-centric approach, and called for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the ongoing conflict.
The Prime Minister stated that India would continue to do everything within its power to assist a peaceful resolution.
India has maintained that the war can only be resolved via conversation and diplomacy since it began, and the Prime Minister has stated that "India is ready to contribute to any peace efforts".
PM Modi also went to Moscow earlier this month for a two-day visit.
During his conversation with President Putin, Prime Minister Modi underscored that no solution to the carnage could be found on the battlefield. "India has consistently advocated for the upholding of the United Nations Charter, including territorial integrity and sovereignty. There are no solutions on the battlefield. "Dialogue and diplomacy are the way forward," he had stated.
