Phillauri has fared well through the weekend and has positioned its producers and distributors at a very safe place. The film was addressed with positive reviews from the critics and the film gained good word of mouth from the audience.
The rom-com has been directed by Anshai Lal, who is a debutant director and produced by Fox Star Studios and Clean slate films. The film was promoted well and the soulful music by Shaswat Sachdev added an advantage in the film buzz.
The film started with an average occupancy on Friday and collected Rs 4.02 crore. The film picked up in the evening and night shows through the plexes. The film showed an upward trend on Saturday, adding Rs 5.20 crore to the collections. Sunday added more moolah to the kitty, with a minor jump, collecting RS 6.03 crore, taking the 3-day weekend total to Rs 15.25 crore in India.
Phillauri was average in the overseas market and started on a very good note in UAE, collecting Rs 1.70 crore on Friday. The final overseas collection is awaited and will be updated shortly.
The movie has a budget of Rs 21 crore which includes marketing and promotions. The producers have already recovered Rs 12 crore from satellite rights and music. Looking at the weekend performance of the movie, it is now assured that recovery is not an issue for the producers.
Anuska and the casting team did a good job roping Diljit since it is his presence which is making all the difference to the collections of Phillauri. As Diljit enjoys mega stardom in the North, the film has collected most of its share from NCR, Punjab and Haryana, compared to rest of the country.
With constant growth over the weekend for Phillauri, it will be crucial for the film to continue the winning streak in the weekdays in order to get good profit from the movie. With various other releases from Bollywood and Hollywood, it will be crucial to see how the film fares amidst the competition.
