Over 90% Of CEO’s Agree Maths Is Key To Career Progression During Automation

As a lead up to the occasion of National Mathematics Day, Cuemath has identified trends around the perception and importance of Mathematics amongst parents, corporates, school principals and recent IITians.

The survey was conducted over the last two months and consisted of over 600 respondents across key metro cities in India. The data primarily reflects that over 94 per cent of the respondents which includes CEO’s, IITians and School Principals agree that Mathematics is key to career progression in a world of automation.

Manan Khurma, CEO, Cuemath said, “In a world which is dynamically changing with each passing day, the ability to adapt quickly to change is an essential skill to possess. Our education system needs to prepare the present-day youth to conquer the reality of disruptions in jobs in this AI-economy, with Math being unarguably one core skill that forms the strongest foundation”.

He further added, “Our understanding of the world around is conditioned by numbers, with its presence seen in each and every aspect of daily life, making mathematics an important element of one’s education. We need to inculcate strong logical reasoning and analytical thinking at early stages of learning, to get ahead in a world of automation”.

• 97 per cent of CEOs believe ‘Math is even more important for wider career options in this age of automation’.
• More than 95 per cent of principals believe Math is important for academic success and career growth
• More than 85 per cent of school principal believe Math proficiency helps to ace competitive exams
• 82 per cent of school principals believe ‘proficiency in Math leads to proficiency in other subjects like physics and chemistry’
• 100 per cent of School Principals find ‘Math is important to ace competitive exams for top colleges’
• 97 per cent of School principals attribute ‘early math foundation to future academic success’

IITian specific insights

• 89 per cent IITians believe ‘Math will have larger importance in an automation driven future job market’
• 87 per cent of IITians believe ‘Math Aptitude has larger importance in career building due to the trend of automation
• 89 per cent IITians found ‘Math to be tougher in Physics and Chemistry in IIT JEE Exams’

Parent-specific insights

• Over 90 per cent believe workbooks and reasoning cards as effective tools of engagement over tabs.
• Logical reasoning the biggest expectation from math learning for over 83 per cent of parents.
• 3 out of 4 parents believe that school tutoring does not give personalized attention to a child's need and speed of learning.
