OnePlus has officially introduced OxygenOS 15, a software update that aims to prioritise performance, design and powerful artificial intelligence. Its main advances include Parallel Processing technology for quicker app transitions, advanced AI capabilities such as AI Detail Boost for 4K image enhancements and enhanced security measures. OxygenOS 15's open beta will be available on 30 October for OnePlus 12 owners.
The latest OxygenOS upgrade aims to provide OnePlus consumers with a more polished and smarter user experience. Parallel Processing, the main feature, increases multitasking by allowing fluid interactions even when more than 20 apps are active at the same time. This update, which cuts system storage requirements by approximately 20 per cent over OxygenOS 14 on the OnePlus 12, achieves efficiency by removing superfluous components.
The AI-powered picture editing capabilities in OxygenOS 15 have seen significant improvements. AI Detail Boost can improve low-resolution images to 4K quality, AI Unblur corrects fuzzy shots and AI Reflection Eraser eliminates reflections in photos taken through glass. These capabilities work together to increase photo quality while eliminating the need for third-party editing programs.
OnePlus also partnered with Google to provide ‘Intelligent Search,’ which allows users to search files, settings and notes using natural language. Furthermore, the ‘Circle to Search with Google’ feature provides quick search functionality via simple screen movements, and the Pass Scan function allows for easy scanning of boarding passes.
The new AI Notes function transcribes audio recordings, reducing unnecessary words for a clean, organised output. The AI Reply function in messaging enhances conversation by offering speedy, context-aware responses.
OnePlus has revealed that its next devices would use Google's Gemini app as their default AI helper. Gemini will help with writing, planning, and real-time speech conversations, and will be available in more than 40 languages at launch. Other new features include a redesigned appearance with new icons, improved file-sharing functionality with iPhones and full theft security with automated device lockout upon suspicious movement.
OxygenOS 15 will go into open beta for OnePlus 12 5G customers on 30 October, with AI features expected on more devices by the end of November.
