Netflix has slashed its subscription cost in India. Earlier priced at Rs 199, the popular mobile-only plan now costs 149 per month. Even after a price cut, Netflix still remains the most expensive OTT platform in the country.
After the price cut, the basic plan, which was earlier priced at Rs 499 per month, now costs only Rs 199. This is a huge 60.12% price drop in the plan. The standard Netflix plan will cost Rs 499 per month now, instead of Rs 649 as the earlier price.
Coming to the most expensive plan, the new premium plan will now cost Rs 649 per month instead of Rs 799 per month.
To set the context, the mobile-only plan is restricted to one mobile device only. Whereas, the basic plan gives you the liberty to choose the device but it is also restricted to one device only. In both plans, the streaming quality is restricted to 480p.
The standard and premium plan allows streaming on 2 and 4 devices respectively. With the Standard Plan, you get upgraded to HD 1080p video. On the other hand, the Netflix Premium plan gives you access to 4K resolution and HDR video.
If you are already subscribed to any plan, you will be upgraded to the higher plan starting today. The existing members will get a notification asking to confirm an upgrade or choose a new plan if they want to. For those who have already subscribed to the premium plan, the new prices will be updated from the next billing cycle.
Noteworthy, Amazon Prime has increased its price by Rs 500 on Monday. Amazon Prime now costs Rs 1499 per year in India compared to the earlier price of Rs 999 per year. Meanwhile, Disney+ Hotstar also offers its premium plan at Rs 1,499 annually.
