Taapsee Pannu starrer Naam Shabana, added Rs 5.2 crore in its second weekend, taking the total to Rs 32.4 crore.
Naam Shabana started the weekend collecting Rs 1.07 crore on Friday; the film saw a good 80 per cent growth on Saturday, collecting Rs. 1.88 crore. Though the film saw a good jump on Saturday (8 April), the numbers were not convincing.
Sunday was decent with Rs. 2.3 crore coming in.
The Industry witnessed a very poor weekend, as none of the new or old releases was able to attract viewers. Bollywood did not see any big release in the weekend so a lot was riding on Naam Shabana to maintain the box office portfolio. Looking at the screen count of Naam Shabana in the second weekend, the number could have been better. The movie is expected to end at a lifetime collection of Rs. 35 crore.
Apart from
Naam Shabana, Bahubali saw a wide re-release in Hindi with 1000 screens, but the audience showed less interest in watching the film again. Some other releases were
Laali ki Shaadi me Laddoo Deewana, Mirza Juuliet, Mukti Bhawan.Directed by Shivam Nair,
Naam Shabana is a spin-off and prequel of the 2015 film ‘
Baby’, with Taapsee reprising her role as Shabana Khan. Akshay Kumar increases the business value of the film with his hard-hitting cameo in the film. Naam Shabana brings many key players from the cast of ‘Baby’ including Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher, Danny Denzongpa along with new entrants Manoj Bajpayee and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film is produced by Neeraj Pandey and Shital Bhatia under Friday Filmworks banner. The music of the film was given by Purab Kohli and Meet Bros.
The film was promoted moderately and the final budget of the film stands at 25 crore. Naam Shabana did prove to be a profitable venture for the producers but they may have expected more form the Taapsee starrer.
Looking at the start by Naam Shabana, Rs. 32.4 crore should have come in Week 1 itself. As the movie faced moderate competition from Boss Baby and Beauty and the Beast in its first Week, the second weekend was clear and a lot more was expected from this Taapsee starrer.
