My Boss Is Doing Something Unethical. But He Is Powerful And Popular. Should I Blow The Whistle?

For our spirit to feel peaceful, we must always do the right thing which means addressing these issues from a Values perspective. It is not good for your boss to be unethical. The karma will be heavy. And it is not good karma for you to support this type of bad behaviour. Because we don’t know how he will react, it is best that you find another job and when you resign, write him a private letter explaining your thoughts and feelings. It may jolt his conscience or it may not. At least you have done the right thing.

While these laws are a big step towards a progressive and ethical society, whistleblowing is not for the faint hearted. It has its own challenges on the ground and can either make or break a career. Normally you will find a powerful figure at the center of this, in this case a powerful boss. If you want to report something that you think is unethical first be sure that it falls under that category and there is irrevocable proof that it exists. •First, before you assume, learn the facts. Be absolutely sure you know the facts before you give an opinion or a statement. •Read companies guideline about ethical and unethical behaviors. •After confirming everything, considering the consequences and the evidence, and now you are ready to file the report. •Share details discreetly with the Top Management and leave it to them to decide. End of the day you never know the top management may know what the person is doing and may not consider it unethical. And if all this is too hard for you and you cannot carry the burden then look for opportunities with companies who are known to be ethical.

So make a special id for this purpose (like whistleblower@gmail) & send the mail with all details & relevant proof to HR head. Follow it up with a call to the HR head (request someone you trust to call). Don’t let your name come in here. Discretion helps.
