After posting a decent weekend total, Mubarakan holds off well on Monday (31st July) at the box-office. The film raked Rs 3.5 crore on Monday, taking the 4 day total to Rs 26.46 crore.
Mubarakan opened to below expectations on Friday (28th July). The film brought in Rs 5.16 crore, which was a big setback for the star-studded affair. However, things changed on Saturday (29th July), as the movie recorded an impressive jump of over 40 per cent. Mubarakan collected Rs 7.38 crore on Saturday. The film grew two-folds on Sunday (30th July), collecting Rs 10.37 crore, that’s a staggering jump of over 100 per cent to that of Friday.
The film maintained good footfalls on Monday, adding Rs 3.5 crore to its kitty. Comparing Monday’s collection to that of Friday; Mubarakan saw a decent decline of only 31 per cent. Considering a working Monday, the numbers seems better than expected for the comedy flick.
Mubarakan is riding on mixed reviews, but the word of mouth has been positive. The film has been slammed by multiple critics, while others called it a light-hearted family entertainer. Looking at the past record of Annes Bazmee, best known for his family entertainers like Welcome, Singh is King and No Entry, his films do well at the mass circuits and with the family audience. The film has been super strong in the single screen theatres, while the plexes have been average.
With Bollywood is losing its grip on the comedy genre, Mubarakan saw a comeback of the clichéd slap-stick comedy. An average plot coupled with dozens of actors in lavish location, dancing and singing throughout the film, Bollywood’s treatment to the genre has always been the same.
Mubarakan has shown good scoring capabilities at the box-office, but it will have a hard time raking profit for the makers. The film is expected to close week one over Rs 35 crore. Made at a budget of over Rs 60 crore, Mubarakan has a lot riding on week 2. But, the fact that Shah Rukh khan starrer Jab Harry Met Sejal will hit screens next weekend, Mubarakan finds itself in all sorts of trouble.
The film will be losing a major chunk of its screen share to Imtiaz Ali’ JHMS. The latter is expected to release in over 3000 screens in India, swiping off more than 60 per cent of Mubarakan screen share.
