Sridevi starrer Mom and Paresh Rawal starrer Guest Iin London debuted with minimal figures at the box-office. Both the films failed to add up even Rs 5 crore at the box-office on Friday (7th July). Whereas, the Hollywood flick Spiderman: Homecoming, brought in more than the two films combined at the box-office.
Mom opened on predictable lines with Rs 2.75 crore coming on the 1st day. The film started slow in the morning shows, but gathered good momentum in the evening shows. The film is riding on great word of mouth and solid reviews. This will escalate Mom’s collection on Saturday (8th July) and Sunday (9th July).
The collections are marginally better than Sridevi’s last release English Vinglish, which brought in Rs 2.50 crore on the opening day. English Vinglish stood at a total lifetime collection of Rs 35 crore at the box-office, with a hit status. On the same lines, Mom is expected to gross on the same level. The film has been made on a modest budget, but the makers will be expecting a lifetime collection close to Rs 30-35 crore. The film has seen a release in 1300 screens across India.
The other release, Guest Iin London, opened low with Rs 2.10 crore coming in. This could have been a decent start considering good critic reviews and word of mouth, but the former and latter has worked against the film. This being, Guest Iin London, is expected to sink further at the box-office in the coming days.
