Meta Platforms Delays Joining EU's AI Pact Amid Compliance Preparations

Meta Platforms has declared that it will not immediately join the European Union's AI Pact, a temporary initiative intended to pave the way for the full implementation of the EU's breakthrough AI Act. A corporate spokesman stated that, while Meta is committed to following EU standards, it is presently preparing for compliance with the AI Act.
The AI Act, approved by EU parliamentarians in May, is an important regulatory step towards managing the development and deployment of artificial intelligence within the bloc. Key parts of the act compel corporations to publish thorough summaries of the data used to train their AI algorithms. The majority of the act's regulations are set to take effect on 2 August 2026.
Until formal law is adopted, the EU urges businesses to sign the AI Pact, which intends to promote early adherence to key commitments listed in the upcoming rules. The representative stated that while Meta is not joining the accord at this time, it may reconsider in the future as it continues its compliance efforts.
The AI Act is part of the EU's broader legislative framework, which includes the Digital Markets Act, Digital Services Act, Data Governance Act and Data Act, all of which aim to create a unified and regulated digital ecosystem.
