India’s leading luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz on Friday (21 July) launched its latest performance-SUV, the new Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupé to strengthen its performance oriented AMG brand. The car priced at Rs 74.8 lakh is based on its SUV GLC platform but gets more power inside and looks sleeker from outside.
This is the third AMG model launched in India this year, followed by the G63 Edition 463 and GLS 63 AMGs last month. This is also the eight product to come out of the stable of Mercedes-Benz this year in India.
Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes Benz India said, “To commemorate the international success of Mercedes-AMG, we introduced the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4MATIC Coupé for India. This SUV Coupe is going to be a key addition to our 43 AMG line and will be instrumental in further popularizing the 43 AMG range to a new customer base.”
Folger added that the new car will further cement their strong AMG portfolio in the performance segment. The GLC 43 4MATIC Coupé launch also marks 50th anniversary of the AMG brand.
Mercedes sold 70,000 units of AMG brand cars in 2015. In 2106, its sales grew by 44 per cent, delivering almost 100,000 vehicles.
In India, the company currently has five AMG performance centres at Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune and Hyderabad. Folger informed that they will add two new AMG performance centres at Chennai and Kochi.
On the company’s performance in 2017, Folger said that the year 2017 is turning out to be a golden year for us. In the first half of the year, the automaker has sold 7,171 units in India, its best performance till date.
"We are confident that we will lead the luxury car segment this year as well," Folger said.
Talking about the car, the GCL 43 4MATIC Coupé is loaded with a 3.0-litre V6 bi-turbo engine that makes 362 bhp and is paired with a 9G-Tronic automatic transmission unit. The car does the 0-100 kmph sprint in 4.8 seconds and the top speed is electronically limited to 250 kmph.
