The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zomato Deepinder Goyal has called for a more humane treatment of delivery partners by mall after getting a first-hand experience of the challenges faced by them during the process of carrying out delivery activities. The company’s CEO played the role of a delivery executive and picked up orders in Gurugram.
Goyal shared his experience on social media where he wrote, “During my second order, I realised that we need to work with malls more closely to improve working conditions for all delivery partners. And malls also need to be more humane to delivery partners. What do you think?”
The CEO also shared a video along with the post which elaborated upon his experience as a delivery partner. Goyal pointed out that he had to take stairs to reach the third floor and he realised that delivery partners are made to wait at the stairs to receive orders and cannot enter the mall.
“We reached Ambience mall in Gurugram to pick up the order from Haldiram’s. Was told to take the other entrance, and realised they are asking me to take the stairs. Went in again on the main entrance to make sure there are not any elevators for delivery partners,” as mentioned in the video shared by the CEO.
Highlighting that he took the feedback from the delivery partners who were present with him, he stated, “Chilled with my fellow delivery partners while also getting valuable feedback from them.” Goyal also added that he was able to sneak in to collect the order when the staircase guard was taking a small break.
Goyal and his wife Grecia Munoz, who changed her name to Gia Goyal on Instagram took on the role of delivery partners to understand the challenges faced by them.
