Even though there has been a huge backlash against China for unleashing the Covid pandemic, Chinese companies are doing phenomenal business here.Lenovo Group has maintained the third position in the Indian personal computers market and recorded 73.4 per cent YoY growth in Q1CY 21 by selling 524,000 units (as per IDC figures). IDC also maintained that the Chinese multinational major, which currently has a marketshare of 20 per cent in the domestic PC market, sold 360 thousand units during Q1 CY 20.
Jaipal Singh, Associate Research Manager, Client Devices, IDC India said, “These brands are available in India for a very long time and have a sustainable user base who buy from them, especially in the B2B space."
Lenovo India Spokesperson refused to offer any comments.
As Rahul Agarwal, its MD had said, “An MNC which is present in 200 countries, is a market leader, and is also a US$ 56 billion company is not from any particular country. We are a global company and have always taken pride in the fact that we are the best example of a combination of the east and the west...we sell B2B, SMB verticals consumers, etc. We sell tablets, workstations, etc. Honestly, I see this coming more from the media than the customers.”
Meanwhile, Lenovo is also planning to start manufacturing tablets in India and expand laptop manufacturing by about 10 times.
