The Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia notified the significant developments in the aviation sector underlining the impressive growth of the aviation fleet from 400 aircraft in 2013 to 700 currently.
According to media reports, Scindia added that the plan is to expand the number to 1,500 within five years. Scindia was addressing the 5th Helicopter and Small Aircraft Summit (Heli Summit 2023) in Madhya Pradesh.
The event also marked the launch of a mobile application called HeliSewa, introduced to streamline the authorities' approvals for helicopter operations through a single-window service platform. The minister said the aviation sector has seen remarkable growth, under the Modi government’s tenure witnessing 148 developed airports, including heliports and water aerodromes.
The fleet size has grown by 75 per cent, reaching 700 aircraft and the number of flying organisations has increased from 28 to 57, he added. Scindia emphasised on PM’s efforts. He said that it's because of him that air travel is accessible to citizens living in remote areas.
Furthermore, the minister also inaugurated three Flight Training Organisations (FTOs) in Khajuraho. He even announced the forthcoming launch of a wide-body aircraft flight between Khajuraho and Varanasi marking the developments in the aviation sector.
