Kamran Rizvi, Secretary, of the Ministry Of Heavy Industries on Saturday said that to get rid of pylons on roads in Indian cities Monopoles transmission towers need to be installed and Indian industries should scale up their manufacturing immensely.
While speaking at an industry conclave organised by IEEMA, the Senior official said,” One of the biggest challenges for a transmission company is to install a transmission line, as in every 200 metre there is farmer’s field which has to be dug up. Eventually, it becomes a law and order problem. So the best route which has not been expanded yet is installing monopole towers because nobody wants that huge pylon in the middle of the road.”
The official added that it would also be beneficial for manpower as many people have died while installing transmission towers.
Monopole transmission towers are a type of structure used in electrical power transmission and telecommunications to support overhead power lines or communication antennas. Unlike traditional lattice towers, which have a broad, steel framework, monopoles are single, tall, cylindrical structures that are generally made of steel or concrete.
“India aspires to become a fully developed country by 2047. So, by all estimation, India’s power consumption is going to increase by five times in the next 10 to 15 years. Therefore, we need to increase our capacity of transmission network, distribution network, transmission equipment and distribution equipment by the same speed,” he said.
He added that India needs to create more companies to meet our rapidly growing demand as they are currently insufficient.
