Indian carriers will see an increase in air traffic as they will operate 25,007 weekly flights in the winter period, higher by three per cent, than the flights operated during the summer period this year, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) informed on Thursday as it released the domestic winter schedule 2024.
The Winter Schedule 2024 (effective from 27th October 2024 till 29th March 2025) of scheduled domestic airlines have been finalised after the slot conference meeting held in September 2024. The final slot clearances have been received from respective airport operators. It has been observed that there are 25,007 departures per week which have been finalised to/from 124 airports as per Winter Schedule 24 compared to 24,275 departures per week from 125 airports in Summer Schedule 2024.
“Out of these 124 airports, Pondicherry airport is proposed by the scheduled airlines whereas operations from Pakyong and Tezpur airport were suspended in the winter schedule 2024,” stated by the DGCA in a release.
IndiGo will handle more than half of the total 25,007 domestic departures per week during the winter schedule as it will operate the highest number of weekly domestic flights at 13,691 departures. This marks a growth of 4.91 per cent from 13,050 departures per week in the ongoing summer schedule.
As per the DGCA, Tata Group, which currently has three airlines under its belt, will have a total of 7,611 departures per week during the season. Out of this, Air India will handle 2,586 departures per week while Air India Express will see 2,832 departures per week during the winter season.
Vistara will report a dip in its departures as the airline will handle 2,193 departures per week, a 5.64 per cent drop as compared to 2,324 departures per week in the summer of this year, as per the DGCA. (ANI)
