With the kind of technology, talent and innovation which are currently available in the country, India will leapfrog the learning stages the developed countries have to go through towards realising their digital goals, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said here on Thursday.
Addressing the gathering on the second day of the 'India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2017' here, Goyal said, "We have to look at new standards of service to our customers and probably expand the level of technology. The telecom industry and Railways are helping India, expanding it to benefit the masses".
Goyal mentioned that the country has demonstrated leadership in mobile and the experience of using a mobile phone will take the country to the next level of engagement.
“The increase penetration of smartphones brings all of e-commerce and banking in your pocket,” added Goyal, highlighting the increasing internet usage in the country.
"Connectivity is the key to growth and development as we bring mobility to the people across the country to bring a comfortable experience.”
The minister called upon the entrepreneurs and start-ups to integrate technology and public services.
In another press conference, Goyal said that the ministry is exploring opportunities in bringing technology into safety. He mentioned that ISRO, Rail Tech & Indian Railways are looking to work together to see how space technology can be used to make travel safer.
“We want to explore if GPS mapping can be used to monitor trains’ punctuality. We had a meeting with the ISRO chief and saw how space technology, mobile technology and Rail Tech can be integrated.”
He mentioned that the ministry is working with Google to bring 400 railway stations under Wi-Fi connection.
