The Indian Digital Gaming Society (IDGS) 2024, an event aimed at advancing the gaming industry in India gathered together major gaming industry players, including developers, policymakers and enthusiasts, to explore India's digital gaming future and the initiatives required to construct a viable sector.
Rajan Navani, President of IDGS, emphasised the importance of a comprehensive plan for realising India's potential in the digital gaming business. He emphasised the significance of investing in technology and infrastructure to fuel the industry's expansion. He stated that India accounts for around 17 to 20 per cent of the global gaming business, which is valued at around USD 200 billion. Navani also emphasised the importance of education and creativity in creating a trained workforce and encouraging innovation in game design.
Ashutosh Mohile, Joint Director of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, discussed the growing popularity of gaming in India. He cited the Ministry's upcoming AVGC Summit (Audio-Video, Gaming and Comics Summit), which will contain a part dedicated to gaming across various platforms such as PC, console, mobile and esports.
Sean Hyunil Sohn, Vice President of IDGS, spoke on worldwide potential for India's gaming business, notably in esports. He emphasised India's ability to contribute to the global gaming industry, citing its cultural legacy and developing digital ecosystem.
The session also discussed the significance of a supporting ecosystem to stimulate creativity and growth, with a focus on financial aid, grants and tax breaks for game makers, particularly start-ups and indie developers. IDGS 2024 acted as a venue for industry stakeholders to collaborate and share ideas, with an emphasis on the difficulties that the Indian gaming industry faces. The event closed with the IDGS's vow to continue driving the growth of digital gaming in the country, along with plans for future events and initiatives.
