The Indian men’s hockey team faced a heartbreaking defeat in the semi-finals of the Paris 2024 Olympics, losing 2-3 to Germany.
In a match marked by aggressive play from India in the first half, Germany managed to take a 2-1 lead by the interval. The Indian team showed resilience, equalising in the third quarter, but a late goal by Germany in fourth quarter dashed India’s hopes of advancing to the final.
Marco Miltkau scored in the 54th minute, giving the defending world champions Germany a crucial lead in the final quarter of regulation time.
India, led by captain Harmanpreet Singh, will now shift their focus to the bronze medal match against Spain, scheduled for Thursday, 8 August, at the Yves-du-Manoir Stadium. The team will hope to replicate their success from Tokyo 2020 and secure a spot on the podium once again.
Meanwhile, Germany advances to face the Netherlands in the gold medal match on the same day.
