The growth of a nation in its true sense would be achieved, when the women of the society are put in the forefront, voiced the Railway Minister, Suresh Prabhu.
Speaking at the Women Economic Forum 2017, the minister said that a country cannot progress by focussing only on the economical growth numbers and need to prioritise the social development alongside, where women have the most important role to play.
“It has been a proven fact that the societies where women are economically engaged, thrives faster and healthier”, said the minister.
The minister also states how the head of the family, dominantly being male tend to sometimes splurge the income earned in the wrong channels.
“How do you spend the money depends on who earns that money. If the same money is given to the woman in that family, she would have the most balanced approach in spending the income, taking care of the social aspects as well, including child welfare, health, education and all the other right causes.
Half of the issues of the world will get automatically solved if women are given the whole sole authority of family expenditure”.
Accompanied by his wife at the event, the minister expressed that the women in the country need to be motivated and encouraged to earn and spend the money as they can lead the society in a more healthier fashion.
Prabhu said that the society cannot grow by focussing only on the economical backbone and need to be structured with the social development of the citizen and some of the India states are leading the way.
“Kerala is an excellent example of how women’s participation in the working of the economy can align the economic and social growth. This is evident from its Human Development Index ranking which shines not only in India but globally”, said Prabhu.
