GST Implementation May Create Upto 1 Lakh Jobs: Infosys Co-Founder
The country may see 10 thousand to 1 lakh jobs being created in the next six months to support the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) reform, according to Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan.
He said, "Every year we need to create about 20 million new jobs, though I do not have seen any data or report. So, in my estimate, probably in next six months, we will see, may be 10,000 to 1 lakh jobs being created to support GST implementation."
However, he said it is difficult to predict the growth of job creation in the country after six months.
The Central GST (CGST) law provides for an 'anti-profiteering' clause to ensure business passes on the benefit of reduced tax incidence on goods or services or both to consumer. He stressed on the point that the government is open to make changes from the feedback during implementation and it is time for the country to move forward.
Kamal Bali, MD, Volvo India said the market will make manufacturers and service providers to adjust to the new norms and the anti-profiteering clause won’t be an issue. He said the government has put this tax as an obstacle and proclaimed that businesses cannot sell products according to their urge to sell.
Gopalakrishnan added, "Ninety per cent of jobs are in unorganised sector, only 10 per cent of jobs are in organised sector. So, the transformation from unorganised to organised sector will take more time. GST is the beginning of this transformation."
GST is a beginning and the process of the transition of economy to come out of the shadow and become transparent economy has begun, but it will take some time into getting settled and implemented.
