In a country where the race for jobs in the IT sector is becoming increasingly competitive, GeeksforGeeks (GfG) has emerged as a pivotal platform for aspirants preparing to enter this field. With millions of students vying for limited opportunities, cracking IT interviews and securing jobs requires more than just theoretical knowledge—it demands a practical, hands-on approach. Established in 2015 by Sandeep Jain, GfG is an edtech platform that provides resources to help students and professionals build their skills, pursue learning opportunities, and seek employment in IT companies.
The Early Days
Like many startups, GeeksforGeeks had humble beginnings. Jain, an IIT Roorkee graduate and a passionate computer science educator, initially started the platform as a blog to share coding tutorials and concepts freely. “The goal was simple—create a resource that anyone, anywhere, can access,” Jain shared in a previous interview. Over the years, the platform grew exponentially, expanding its content library and broadening its focus to include everything from coding exercises to interview prep and recruitment services, Jain further explained.
Growth Through a Student-Centric Approach
Currently serving over 35 million users per month, GeeksforGeeks provides a wide range of educational resources, especially popular among learners in India. The platform offers over 1,500 tutorials covering core computer science topics such as data structures, algorithms, and operating systems. Its interactive coding challenges and mock tests allow students to practise real-world scenarios in a structured environment.
Ankit Srivastava, a software engineer from Noida, shares his experience: “I found GeeksforGeeks to be a lifeline during my final year at college. The tutorials were easy to follow, and the coding problems were just what I needed to prepare for interviews.”
Bridging the Gap Between Learning and Employment
Learning is a crucial step in preparing for a career, but securing a job also necessitates familiarity with the recruitment process. GeeksforGeeks recognized this need and responded by providing resources designed to support job seekers. The platform offers mock interview sessions, practical coding assessments, and a repository of interview experiences. This platform allows candidates to gain insight into actual technical interviews. The interview experiences database, which features contributions from numerous users sharing their recruitment stories, serves as a valuable resource for understanding company-specific hiring practices.
“Our users often tell us that the mock interviews help them feel more confident going into the real thing,” says Jain. “It’s not just about the knowledge—you have to be ready for the structure and pace of an interview.”
Get Hired: A Holistic Job Portal
In 2018, GeeksforGeeks launched the Get Hired portal, a job-matching service connecting job seekers with potential employers. The portal enables companies to post job openings, and candidates can apply for roles through a centralised platform. It primarily focuses on candidates who have been pre-assessed through the platform’s coding challenges and assessments.
Regarding the recruitment feature, ABC, a tech recruiter based in Bangalore, says, “Hiring through GeeksforGeeks has simplified our process significantly. We know that candidates applying through the portal are serious and have the technical grounding required for the job.”
The Shift to Offline Classrooms
While GeeksforGeeks primarily operates in the digital space, it has also expanded into offline learning. With centres in Bangalore, Noida, and Pune, these physical classrooms cater to learners who prefer face-to-face instruction. The offline mode offers a combination of live coding sessions, theory lessons, and hands-on projects.
“Offline classes give students the chance to ask questions in real-time and collaborate with peers,” says one of the instructors at one of the centres. “The goal is to recreate the same rigorous yet supportive environment that GFG is known for online.”
