Two major factors make Feedback Energy Distribution Company (FEDCO) a great place to work in the creative freedom the company offers its employees and the fact that they have a job they enjoy doing. What sets the company apart is the team bonding within it. Employees have clear-cut profiles, which makes them secure and gives them a visible growth path.
“To be honest, nothing defines an ‘ideal company’. The closest description is possibly a company that gives respect, space and an environment to work freely and effectively in,” says Feedback Energy’s CEO, Samarjit Mohanty. “Ours has been an interesting journey to say the least! Two things have differentiated the space in which we work – one is that it is almost a 24x7 consumer-centric operation space and the second is that we have a substantial field force, apart from our corporate employees,” says Mohanty.
Feedback Energy is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Feedback Infra, engaged in the business of distributing electricity. At present FEDCO functions as a distribution franchisee in four electricity divisions, Puri, Balugaon, Khurda and Nayagarh under the Central Electricity Supply Utility (CESU) of Odisha.
The company services close to half a million consumers across an area of 9,000 square km or more in Odisha. It aims to create greater operational efficiencies, better load management and improve consumer services.
WORK CULTURE
Feedback Energy Distribution supplies power to consumers, maintains the LT distribution network and implements smartgrid solutions. It is also responsible for upgrading the distribution network. The company’s people practices have focused on two things – relief from stress internally and equality among field and corporate office employees.
The company strives to ensure that employees are free from stress within the company and are so, able to relieve the high pressure that such consumer services put on employees. The even ground between field and corporate office staff ensures that employees work for one another and beyond their own job profiles.
“People practices and management is a constantly evolving process and the tone from the top sets the benchmark,” says Mohanty. “All of us, as a group, are in a happy space wherein we own responsibility, work towards effectiveness and efficiency and most importantly, enjoy what we are doing and what we are building,” says he.
PEOPLE PHILOSOPHY
“Mutual respect irrespective of cadre, a stress-free working environment, ownership and acknowledgement of contribution is our people philosophy, which is to be imbibed, but not pushed,” says the FEDCO chief. “We would like the organisation to be known to be a ethical, competitive and a fun place to work in,” he goes on to say, adding confidently, “Our average employee testimonial is likely to be learning, growth, fun, respect ...”
Feedback Energy Distribution is now six years old as a venture and its entire core team is still intact. “Not a single core team member has left this organisation,” says Mohanty. “We as an organisation believe in respect, team work, transparency, fun and enough scope for individual growth,” says he. Feedback Energy’s people philosophy reflects in its work culture and earns it a badge in the BW Businessworld rankings of companies that offer a great place to work in.
