Dyson has introduced its first wet line styling products, the Dyson Chitosan formulas line. The products use chitosan, a macromolecule derived from oyster mushrooms, which marks Dyson's foray into ingredient science in the beauty business.
The compositions are intended to provide a flexible, all-day hold without the stiffness found in typical styling solutions. They are compatible with Dyson's existing hair appliances and seek to extend the life of hairstyles.
The company's founder, James Dyson, described the product's approach by saying, "Unlike some styling products that use polymers to bond hair strands together, Dyson's formulas use chitosan to create flexible bonds that support each strand."
Dyson's past hair care products, such as the Supersonic hair dryer and Airwrap multi-styler, prioritised performance and addressed hair health concerns. Dyson Beauty's President, Kathleen Pierce, stated that the business intends to address common hair care issues with engineering solutions.
The essential ingredient, chitosan, is derived from oyster mushrooms and is employed to form the flexible linkages in the new product line. Dyson's entry into formulations indicates a shift towards incorporating ingredient research into its beauty product offerings.
