The manufacturing and technology of solar must be democratised and the world must collectively address the imbalance in the concentration of green energy investments in order to ensure an energy transition, said PM Modi on Thursday.
While speaking virtually at the first International Solar Festival 2024, organised by the International Solar Alliance(ISA) he said, “The imbalance in concentration of green energy investments needs to be addressed. Empowering the least developed countries and small island developing states should be a top priority, and inclusion of marginalised communities, women and youth is crucial. As one of the founders of the ISA, India is committed to working with the world for a green, inclusive future.”
The PM said, India’s growth in the solar sector is the result of a clear approach. Whether in India or in the world, the mantra to increase solar adoption is awareness, availability and affordability. “The increased awareness about the need for sustainable energy sources by encouraging domestic manufacturing in the solar sector will increase availability. Through specific schemes and incentives, we also made the solar option affordable,” he said.
Pralhad Joshi, Minister of New and Renewable Energy in his address at the inauguration said, “India, as a founding member of the ISA, is committed to supporting the global community, particularly the Global South, in advancing an inclusive and sustainable future, drawing on its proven success in clean energy initiatives.”
He added that the International Solar Festival reflects India's innovative spirit and commitment to a sustainable future, inspiring collective action toward an energy transition led by the government, youth, communities, and the private sector.
