If you wanted a slim, stylish notebook that had a lot of performance as well, Apple’s Macbook range was the only option. Dell has changed that with the XPS lineup if you are a windows user and want an ultraportable notebook that can handle most of the things you would need on the go, look no further.

The XPS 13 offers an excellent display, powerful hardware options along with a decent keyboard and battery life. The Best part is, Dell, packs all of this in a chassis that is no bigger than 12-inches and is genuinely more compact than most other 13-inch laptops.
The XPS 13 7390 was announced back in August and was recently launched in India. The overall design language remains the same and the 7390 looks similar to the previous-gen. You get the same 12” aluminium chassis on the outside holds a stunning 4k display with bezels so slim that it could give competition to some of the smartphones available today. The unusual webcam placement at the bottom of the screen in the last-gen models received a lot of criticism for unflattering angles and this time the webcam has been moved to its usual place, above the screen with Dell claiming it’s the smallest camera they have ever put in a laptop. Dell has also managed to bring the webcam back up and claims that it is the smallest camera they have ever put on a laptop. Even the keyboard and trackpad feel intuitive and responsive.
Of course, you get a lot more inside like the latest Intel 10th-gen Comet Lake processor options that bring added performance with some improved battery life. 16gigs of ram and a 500gig SSD. Overall, this is certainly a fast Ultrabook, but it’s not meant for those with heavy graphical workloads. Its got enough horsepower and can run photo editing and video editing applications. The only bottleneck that we faced is heat and performance throttling. Considering how compact the XPS 13 is under high loads we did see the XPS 13 getting hot.
The notebook does come with Dell’s new GORE thermal insulation, Temperatures are maintained well, and for the most part, we found the laptop running cool.
In terms of port selection, you get three USB Type-C ports that can be used for charging as well as connect up to two displays via Thunderbolt 3. Apart from that, there is only the headphone-microphone combo jack and the microSD card slot. You also get the quick battery indicator button with four LED lights.
The InfinityEdge display with 4K resolution with the minimal bezel is eye candy. It supports HDR and Dolby Vision along with Dell Cinema, which automatically enhances the overall contrast and saturation when you are watching video content. Offering rich colours, brightness and wide viewing angles.
We were using the XPS 13 on high settings most of the time and the battery would consistently last around 5-6hours. The battery life is better than the last-gen but certainly not what the company claims though. Being able to charge the device using the USB C port is a boon when you are travelling and running out of juice.
For Everyday workloads, the XPS 13 is a perfect package including multiple Chrome tabs, Photoshop editing and even light video rendering.
This doesn’t come cheap though. As of now, Dell is selling it at a starting price of Rs 99,890 going up to Rs 1,46,690. Other options that you can look for in the windows arena is the Microsoft Surface and in MacOS family the new Apple MacBook Air.
