Nitin Gadkari, Minister for Road Transport & Highways on Monday said, conversion of knowledge and technology into wealth is future therefore we need to find out the option for diesel and petrol which is a big import for our country.
While speaking at build India Infra awards the minister said, "We have the import of 16 lakh crore of fossil fuel, by taking a lot of steps still we don't have the ethanol economy of 1 lakh crore. I am confident that within five years the metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai we will have 100 per cent electric buses. But the problem is that in construction equipment in shipping everywhere we are using this fossil fuel."
He added, we should find out the option for diesel and petrol which is a big import for the country.
Gadkari said, even from pollution point fossils fuel is a very serious issue. In Assam petroleum methanol is available. So in Assam and North East we can convert our transport on methanol. In Mumbai if the methanol is available, we can convert the Mumbai buses on methanol.
While pointing out the sluggish growth of agriculture sector the minister said, 65 per cent of the population in our country belongs to agriculture sector and the contribution from agriculture and allied industry in GDP is only 12 per cent. And that is the reason we need to diversify agriculture towards energy and power sector.
