Chennai Airport's Renovated Terminal 4 Gets Ready for Domestic Operations

The Airport Authority of India kick started the trial run for Chennai Airport's Terminal 4, marking the occasion with the introduction of domestic flight services on 14 November. 

The Airport Director, CV Deepak, presented the inaugural boarding pass to the first passenger of an Air India flight. The pilot launch featured an Air India flight arriving from Port Blair with 148 passengers, followed by its departure for Bengaluru with 152 passengers on board.

According to reports, scheduled for inauguration in April, the new integrated terminal building at Chennai International Airport's Phase 1 will be unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 

This project, with a budget of Rs 1,260 crore, aims to enhance passenger services and increase the airport's capacity from 23 Million Passengers Per Annum (MPPA) to 30 MPPA.

Chennai International Airport comprises two terminals: the Kamaraj Domestic Terminal and the Anna International Terminal. 

The announcement from the airport's official social media post highlighted the completion of Terminal 4's renovation, which was underway since the commencement of T-2. Trial operations by Air India were conducted on 14 November, and regular domestic operations were set to commence from 15 November.

Effective 15 November, all domestic flights operated by Air India and Alliance Air will be shifted to Terminal 4, which is now fully operational to handle domestic flight operations, as confirmed by the airport authorities.
