Centre Approves Rs 3,600 Cr Worth Projects To Upgrade Power Distribution Infra In Gurugram, Faridabad
The Ministry of Power has accorded the approval for the same in its inter-ministerial monitoring committee meeting
To ensure a reliable and quality electricity supply to consumers and to cater to the increasing power demand, the Ministry of Power has given the approval for modernising and upgrading the power distribution infrastructure in Gurugram and Faridabad Districts. The projects are expected to incur an expenditure of Rs 3,600 crore.
The Ministry of Power, under the guidance of the Ministry of Power and Housing and Urban Affairs, has accorded the approval for the same in its inter-ministerial monitoring committee meeting held on 14 August 2024.
Under the project, works for around 500 feeders with the latest technology have been planned, including setting up 20 new gas-insulated substations (12 in Faridabad and 8 in Gurugram). The project also includes 3,500 kilometres of underground cabling and the commissioning of 5,000 new distribution transformers or compact substations. In addition, it involves bifurcating 486 feeders into 821 feeders.
The projects will be implemented under the revamped distribution sector scheme of the Centre, which would provide benefits to the consumers of Manesar and Badshahpur in the Gurugram district. In the Faridabad district, it would benefit the consumers of Old Faridabad, NIT, Ballabhgarh and Greater Faridabad.
In addition, the automation of the network has also been included as it would assist in prompt fault detection and restoring power.
The Union Minister for Power and Housing Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar took note of the performance of the power departments and power distribution companies in the country.
The ministry, during the meeting, reviewed the status and quality of power supply in the National Capital Region (NCT) including the cities of Gurugram and Faridabad. The power demand in these areas has been growing at an 8 to 10 per cent rate annually, as per the statement from the Centre.
Upon completion of the works under the projects, the quality and reliability of the power supply would improve in the cities. The underground cabling would ensure the safety of the citizens and improve the overall aesthetics in congested areas.
