Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given green signal to flagship scheme of 'Krishi Unnati Yojna' in its meeting on 2nd of May, 2018. It is a scheme that will be beyond 12th five-year plan where the central government is about to give a share of Rs. 33,269.976 crore.
These schemes appear more to develop the agriculture and allied sector in an overall scientific custom to increase the income of farmers with a push on better production and better returns on produce.
As mentioned earlier, the umbrella scheme will cover some 11 missions that are-
1. Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH): This mission will have a total central share of Rs. 7533.04 crore, MIDH aims to promote the overall growth of horticulture sector.
2. National Food Security Mission (NFSM): This mission will have a total central share of Rs. 6893.38 crore and it will also cover National Mission on Oil Seeds and Oil Palm (NMOOP). It will focus on production of rice, wheat, pulses, coarse cereals and commercial crops, through area expansion and productivity enhancement in a suitable manner in the identified districts of the country.
3. National Mission for Sustainable Agriculture (NMSA): This mission will have a total central share of Rs.3980.82 crore. According to CCEA, NMSA aims at promoting sustainable agriculture practices best suitable to the specific agro-ecology.
4. Integrated Scheme on Agricultural Marketing (ISAM): This mission with a total central share of Rs. 3863.93 crore eyes on developing agricultural marketing infrastructure.
5. Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanisation (SMAM): This is one of the most futuristic missions and will carry a total central share of Rs. 3250 crore. SMAM aims to increase the reach of farm mechanization to small and marginal farmers.
6. Sub Mission on Agriculture Extension (SMAE): This scheme will have a total central share of Rs. 2961.26 crore. SMAE will focus more on coordination among states and centre.
7. Integrated Scheme on Agricultural Cooperation (ISAC): This mission will have a total central share of Rs. 1902.636 crore. It aims to provide financial assistance for improving the economic conditions of cooperatives, remove regional imbalances.
8. Sub Mission on Plant Protection and Plan Quarantine (SMPPQ) with a total central share of Rs. 1022.67 crore. SMPPQ aims to minimize loss to quality and yield of agricultural crops from the biohazards (weeds, pests, rodents etc.) and will also work to make strategies against such issues.
9. Sub Mission on Seeds and Planting Material (SMSP) with a total central share of Rs. 920.6 crore. SMSP aims to increase production of certified / quality seed.
10. Integrated Scheme on Agriculture Census, Economics and Statistics (ISACES): This mission may push for revitalisation of entire census system in agriculture with a total central share of Rs. 730.58 crore. It aims to undertake the quantitative data collection of aspects like agriculture census, the study of the cost of cultivation of principal crops etc.
11. National e-Governance Plan (NeGP): With the least allotment of capital in quantitative terms of total central share of 211.06 crore. NeGP aims to bring farmer centricity & service orientation to the programmes. (with inputs from PIB)
