Despite facing strong competition from Akshay’s Toilet- Ek Prem Katha, the new releases have successfully brought in their share of moolah at the box-office.
Bareilly Ki Barfi started on a lower note on Friday (18th August) collecting Rs 2.42 crore. After a low morning start on Friday, the film picked up in the evening and night shows. BKB is witnessing very good occupancy in Delhi-NCR regions. The film gathered good momentum on Saturday and saw a healthy growth of 60 per cent to that of Friday, collecting Rs 3.85 crore. Sunday (20th August) remained strong for the film and BKB collected Rs 5.02 crore, taking the weekend total to Rs 11.30 crore.
The decent weekend collections have given BKB a hope for good weekday collections. If the film holds well on the weekdays, a good lifetime collection is on the cards. The film is made at a very limited budget of less than Rs 15 crore, and considering Rs 11.30 crore in the first three days, the film clearly puts itself in a safe spot. Early reports of Monday (21st August), suggest that BKB has maintained similar footfalls to that of Friday. Anything over Rs 2 crore will be a good hold for the movie on a normal working Monday.
The other release of the week- Annabelle: Creation has also started off on a strong note. The film has collected close to Rs 23 crore over the weekend, including the paid-previews from Tuesday (15th August) to Thursday (17th August).
Annabelle: Creation saw a very limited release in the paid-previews from Tuesday to Thursday. The film collected Rs 2.75 crore through the paid-previews. The movie got a full release on Friday, a week after its U.S. release. Friday opened on good terms and the film collected Rs 4.5 crore. Despite of the average reviews, the film is doing very well with the audiences. The word of mouth is strong and the trend can be seen in the strong growth for the film on Saturday and Sunday.
Annabelle: Creation collected Rs 7 crore on Saturday and over Rs 8 crore on Sunday, taking the total collections close to Rs 23 crore. The numbers are on the same lines of Conjuring-2 which raked in Rs 25 crore over the weekend. Annabelle: Creation has collected neck-to-neck with TEPK and considering the wide screen gap between the two, it clearly shows that the former has witnessed an excellent occupancy and given the latter a run for its money. The film is expected to maintain good footfalls on Monday and post a good week-1 total.
Annabelle: Creation has crossed over $150 million in the international circuits. The domestic U.S. collections have topped the $50 million mark. The Conjuring franchise, with the good show of Annabelle: Creation has become the first horror franchise to cross the billion dollar mark.
