The box-office scenario has improved with the release of Toilet- Ek Prem Katha. The film has already brought in great numbers in the first week and is expected to keep up the good collections in the second week. With a successful film going strong into week-2, it will be tough for the new releases to rake in good numbers.
Ayushmann Khurrana, Kriti Sanon and Rajkumar Rao starrer Bareilly Ki Barfi has created a decent amount of buzz before its release. The quirky trailer has been well received by the audience and the music is well crafted, suiting the mood of the film. BKB is expected to open on a decent note collecting Rs 3.5-4 crore on Day-1.
The film comprises of good actors, with Rajkumar Rao leading the pack. Ayushmann and Kriti look promising in the trailer and are expected to deliver good performances. Ayushmann has two back-to-back releases, with BKB releasing this weekend and Shubh Mangal Savdhan releasing the week after.
BKB will face stiff competition from Akshay’s Toilet- Ek Prem Katha. The latter is expected to retain maximum number of screens, considering its solid performance in week-1. This leaves very limited screens for the Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s film. BKB has to impress the critics to put up a good show at the box-office. The reviews and word of mouth will play a crucial role in the success of the film. If the film rides on good reviews, a solid jump over the weekend is quite possible.
The other anticipated release of the weekend is Annabelle: Creation. The popular Conjuring franchise film has seen a worldwide release, before it hit theatres in India. Annabelle: Creation has enjoyed a solid weekend of over $35 million from the U.S. box-office and has been strong in other International circuits too. With the Conjuring franchise being very popular in India, the film is expected to open on the note of Rs 4-5 crore.
Annabelle: Creation is expected to grow over the weekend and post a decent total on board. The last three franchise films did very well in India and the last release Conjuring-2 brought in over Rs 52 crore from the circuit.
Annabelle: Creation is expected to remain strong in the popular circuits and rake in good numbers from the multiplex. The film is rated 68 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.2 rating on iMDB.
The weekend will play safe for Akshay’s TEPK and the popular horror affair Annabelle: Creation, but the real test lies for Bareilly Ki Barfi. The low budget affair finds itself stuck in between two very certain box-office performers. However, BKB has full potential to get itself out of the shackles and score good numbers at the box-office. The film might open low than the counterparts, but a good growth over the weekend will put it on the right track.
